Oyster Sauce Chinese Lettuce (蚝油绍菜)
Oyster Sauce Chinese Lettuce, or 蚝油绍菜, is a straightforward yet tasty dish that combines the crisp texture of Chinese lettuce with the rich flavors of oyster sauce. This dish is quick to prepare and makes a wonderful side for any Chinese meal.
Ingredients
- 500 g Chinese lettuce celtuce, peeled and sliced into 2-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- A splash of water about 2-3 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preparation:
- Peel the outer skin of the Chinese lettuce to reveal the tender inner part.
- Slice it into 2-inch pieces.
Garlic and Oil:
- Heat up a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.
- Sauté the minced garlic until it becomes fragrant but not browned.
Cook the Chinese Lettuce:
- Add the sliced Chinese lettuce to the pan and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes to coat the pieces in oil and garlic.
Add Flavors:
- Pour in the oyster sauce and soy sauce, mixing well to ensure the Chinese lettuce is evenly coated.
Stir and Steam:
- Add a splash of water and cover the pan for about 2 minutes. This will steam the Chinese lettuce, making it tender yet crisp.
Taste and Adjust:
- Remove the lid and give it a quick taste. Add salt and pepper if necessary, but keep in mind that the oyster sauce is already quite salty.
Serve:
- Once the Chinese lettuce is tender to your liking, transfer it to a serving dish and serve immediately.
