Stir-Fried Baby Bok Choy (清炒小棠菜)
Stir-Fried Baby Bok Choy, or 清炒小棠菜, is a quick and healthy dish that pairs well with just about anything. It's incredibly simple and focuses on the fresh, crisp flavors of baby bok choy. Great for a weeknight dinner or as a side dish for special occasions.
Ingredients
- 400 g baby bok choy washed and halved lengthwise
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- Salt to taste
- A dash of white pepper optional
- A splash of water about 2-3 tablespoons
Instructions
Prep the Baby Bok Choy:
- Wash the baby bok choy thoroughly to remove any grit.
- Cut them in half lengthwise to make them easier to cook evenly.
Heat Up the Pan:
- Place a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.
Sauté Garlic:
- Toss in the minced garlic and stir-fry briefly until it's fragrant but not browned, about 30 seconds.
Cook the Baby Bok Choy:
- Add the halved baby bok choy to the pan. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes to get them coated in the oil and garlic flavor.
Season:
- Sprinkle a bit of salt over the bok choy, and white pepper if using.
Add Water and Cover:
- Add a splash of water and quickly cover the pan with a lid. This helps steam the bok choy so it cooks evenly.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the bok choy is tender but still crisp.
Taste and Adjust:
- Take a small piece and taste it. Adjust the seasoning if necessary.
Serve:
- Transfer the cooked baby bok choy to a serving dish, and it's ready to be enjoyed!
Great!
