Black Bean Chili Beef Rice Noodles (豉椒牛肉米粉)

This dish combines thinly sliced beef with a spicy and savory black bean chili sauce, all served over delicate rice noodles. It's a flavorful and satisfying dish that's popular in Chinese cuisine.

For the Beef:

  • 300 g beef sirloin or flank steak thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

For the Rice Noodles:

  • 200 g rice noodles
  • Boiling water for soaking

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons black bean sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

For Stir-Frying:

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1-2 red chilies sliced
  • 1 capsicum / bell pepper sliced
  • 1 onion sliced


Marinate the Beef:

  • Combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil.
  • Mix well and set aside to marinate for at least 20 minutes.

Prepare the Rice Noodles:

  • Place the rice noodles in a large bowl and cover with boiling water.
  • Soak until tender, usually around 5-10 minutes, then drain and set aside.

Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the black bean sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. Set aside.

Cook the Beef:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
  • Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Vegetables:

  • Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the wok.
  • Sauté the garlic, chilies, bell pepper, and onion until softened.

Combine Everything:

  • Return the beef to the wok.
  • Add the prepared sauce and mix well.
  • Finally, add the soaked rice noodles and toss everything together to combine.


  • Serve the Black Bean Chili Beef Rice Noodles hot, garnished with additional slices of red chili or a sprinkle of fresh herbs, if desired.
