Corn and Diced Meat Rice ( 粟米肉粒飯)

粟米肉粒飯, or Corn and Diced Meat Rice, is a comforting and simple dish often found in Chinese home cooking. It combines sweet corn, savory meat (usually pork or chicken), and fluffy rice into a delightful one-pot meal. Here's a straightforward recipe to make this wholesome dish.

For the Rice and Toppings:

  • 2 cups jasmine rice rinsed and drained
  • 400 g pork or chicken diced into small pieces
  • 1 cup sweet corn fresh, canned, or frozen
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 1/2 cups water or chicken broth for cooking the rice
  • 2 green onions chopped (for garnish)

Optional Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup peas or diced carrots for extra color and nutrients
  • 1 egg per serving fried or scrambled, as an additional topping


Prepare the Rice:

  • Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Let it drain completely.

Marinate the Meat:

  • In a bowl, mix the diced pork or chicken with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.

Cook the Meat:

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • Add the marinated meat to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through. Set aside.

Cook the Rice:

  • In a large pot, combine the rinsed rice with water or chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, spread the cooked meat and sweet corn evenly over the top of the rice. Do not stir. Cover and continue to cook on low heat for another 10 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the water is absorbed.

Finish the Dish:

  • Gently fluff and mix the rice with the meat and corn using a fork or spatula. If using, add peas or diced carrots at this stage and mix well.


  • Serve the Corn and Diced Meat Rice hot, garnished with chopped green onions. Optionally, top each serving with a fried or scrambled egg.
